Brothers and Sisters:
I’m sure by now everyone has heard last night we were able to avert a strike with a tentative agreement with Ford Motor Company. We can certainly appreciate everyone’s frustration last night as the deadline approached. It was crucial to the process that the membership of local 707 remained on their jobs until the last possible moment. This sent a clear message to the company that although we were willing to take legal action if necessary we were disciplined enough not to give the company the upper hand. Again as always a big thank you to the membership. We couldn’t have accomplished what we did had it not been for your support and solidarity.
I would like to report that the local bargaining team has unanimously supported the tentative agreement reached last night. Our commitment to the membership was that we would follow our mandate and return with the best agreement possible. Although we weren’t successful in attaining everything we set out to achieve. I can say we have made substantial gains not only from a master level but especially from a local level. This was the most difficult set of bargaining we have had in a long time not only because of the greed the corporation displayed but also because of the unique set of circumstances we were faced with.
Our ratification meeting will be held this Sunday November 6th at the International Centre, 6900 Airport Rd Mississauga On. The skilled trades specific meeting will take place staring at 8 am doors open at 7 followed by the whole membership ratification beginning at 10:30. I would urge everyone to attend and receive firsthand information of the details of the agreement. Voting will be by 2014-2016 union card ONLY.
